Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Non-Dead - Chickenfoot

My wife and I have a tremndously great oppurtunity on Saturday Night, friends of ours have invited us (free of charge) to go to Mohegan with them and see Chickenfoot, the new band made up of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Chad from the Chilli Peppers. Except for dinner the weekend is on a client of my friend. I am extremely excited for a night away (those of you with young kids know what I am saying!) but I am not sure what to think of Chickenfoot. I have enjoyed Van Halen both with and without Sammy, I have enjoyed the chilli peppers, Satriani solo stuff I can take or leave. My question is have any of the community seen this band and what are your impressions of them. I have heard some stuff on youtube and whatnot but looking for some people who have possibly seen them live. Any feedback to this would be greatly apreciated!

I used to be a huge Van Halen fan and a pretty big Satriani fan as well. I still love the Chili Peppers. In regards to the chicken feet, I don't find them to be a very cohesive unit. Not a big fan of their material, but I am a big fan of all those guys and they do put on a fun show. More importantly, it's a free show! That's a generous offer so I would get my ass there if I could. I'll never understand the Sammy haters. I think he has great stage presence, and knows how to work a crowd.

I agree deniro, I always liked Sammy with VH, I am more of a fan with David in the band but Sammy had a real nice run with them and his enrgy is pretty incredible too. I am looking forward to the show but going in blind not knowing any songs. I am going to try to get something loaded on the iPod for the ride to Mohegan but we'll see. It is free, the rooms and the tickets so no matter who it is I will enjoy myself but I am pretty sure the 4 of us will have a good time. I hear Sammy is a pretty big fan of the Dead, I might be wrong on that but I am pretty sure I read that somewhere. Thanks for the info though deniro!

The other thing I find appealing about Sammy is he's a genuinely nice, down-to-earth guy. I think Roth is a conceited, egotistical, jerk (though so are Eddie and Alex). Sammy has his own small club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where he loves to put on free shows from time to time and really interact with the crowd. Many people who have gone say it's some of the most fun they've ever had at a show. Report back after the show to let me know if it was worth it.

And yes, I've also heard Sammy is a Dead fan. Can't remember where though. Here's a pretty cool video if you haven't seen it yet:

I will report back on Monday, assuming my memory is not too clouded by Mr. Jack Daniels and his good friend Coke-A-Cola! I agree about DLR being egotistical and probably an ahole but those 6 albums they put together were pretty dam good! I will check back on Monday!
